Tribute to Fran Hills

I’d like to take this opportunity to recognize a very special individual. Fran Hills, who has taught at Plainfield School for 30 years will retire this June. Six years ago when I joined the Board, my oldest daughter Tori was in 3rd grade. I hadn’t even made it into that mysterious back half of the building yet and I knew little about the 4th through 8th grade teachers. However, I quickly got to know Fran. It seemed that she was involved in every important committee and every cutting edge initiative at the school. At that time Fran not only chaired the Plainfield Education Association, she also chaired the professional development committee and played a key role in developing the Best Schools plan detailing a vision for professional development tied to improving outcomes for students.

Eventually, I was fortunate enough to have Fran teach both of my kids and to experience first hand what a difference a combination of experience, wisdom and commitment can make in education. On August 8th of last year, Fran received the Christa McAuliffe Leadership Award from NEA-New Hampshire. This award is an incredible and well-deserved honor, presented to one New Hampshire teacher each year for outstanding service to the cause of public education.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank you Fran for your enthusiasm, humor, dedication, and wisdom. You have had a significant impact on the lives of Plainfield students and on Plainfield School and you will be missed. We wish you all the best in your retirement – you’ve earned it!
